Advantages: fun, easy to use
Disadvantages: can get words wrong
I have always wanted voice recognition for my PC, so last week decided to go and buy the Dragon naturally Speaking 5. For anyone that does not know what it is, it is software for speaking in to a headset and it appears on your scree in chat, word and many others. To install it on to your PC, all you have to do is put the CD in your hard drive and follow the on screen instructions. When you first start using it, you have to train it for your voice. To do this, you choose read the text on your screen, then you read a story which you have a few to choose from like Charlie and the chocolate factory and others. Whilst reading these, they get highlighted to say that it undrestands you. Once you have read it all, it says congratulations you are ready to start using voice recognition. At first when I was reading out the story, I felt a bit silly. You soon get used to it though. It's best if you are in the room on your own when using voice recognition, as it picks up noises and voices really easy. It will then start making it's own words up for you, which can be annoying. You need to read slowly and clearly or it will not understand what you are saying. Minimum requirements to use voice recognition are:- Windows 98, 2000, millenium 266 mhz processor 64 mb ram 150mb free disc space sound card cd rom speakers Sometimes when you say a word, it may get it wrong. You can tell it to delete the last word and try it again. If it is still getting it wrong, you can train it for that word and it will get it right. You can use voice recognition for many things like:- Microsoft word 97-2000 chat email microsoft excel and many many others!!! I mainly use it for emails and chat rooms and for writing letters. You can also open up programmes too, which is really good. It's so easy to use and fun at the same time as well. I bou
ght it from Game for £29.99. I have also seen it in Electronic Boutique for the same price. It's definitely worth the money. There was another voice recognition but that was about £99 I think, which is very expensive. You get headset with microphone, an instruction book, software and a cut of piece from the book of what to say and do. Other members of the family can use it too, but they have to train it for there voices though. I'd recommend this to anyone!!
