Advantages: Fun, very cheap

The eJay programs come in a couple of flavours - Dance eJay and HipHop eJay. There have been plenty of good reviews on this program, particularly on its sleeve, but it really isn't very good.

The main problem is that it's a toy. When you realise this, you can start to enjoy it for what it is. You cannot make anything sounding vaguely original on it, due to the way you have to drag and drop the terrible preset wicka-witcha-waa scratches etc. onto the timeline. I promise that no matter what you do, the stuff you come up with will sound very dull to anyone else. The box of HipHop eJay tells you to "keep the flava real". How ghetto? Not at all. If you want to keep the flava real, buy some decks instead.

BUT - you may well have had a great time making your tune, and that really is the point of this program - fun.

So if you want fun, and maybe a tiny weeny titchy little taster of what software music creation is like, get it.

If you want to make music that sounds good to other people, then forget this program.
