For years now, I've been a Logic Audio user. In fact, I started out using the old Atari ST computers. Thankfully now they have Macintoshes. Here in Texas, we have a recording studio and the Hub of operations is Emagic's Logic Audio Gold. The program is very well layed out with a huge variety of options to suit just about any application. Being from Texas, we do a lot of country music as well as some high end commercials and movies. We've never had a problem with it until today. The current movie we're working on was shot digitally. We recorded all the audio on the Alesis HD24 multi track in 48kHz/24bit resolution. In the capture session, after we had successfully transfered to the computer, we discovered that Logic 4.7 wouldn't accept the higher bit depth. Being a faithful logic user, I figgured that it must be a mistake on my behalf, so I went to the manual. The Manual for the 4.7 version clearly states that the program has the capabilities to accept all the usual sample rates AND bit depths. Not true. Upon calling the Emagic team out there in Los Angeles, they told me that the manual was not entirely accurate, and that only 16 bit digital audio is supported by 4.7. The soultion?? Buy the upgrade to 5.0 for $150 US. The new version comes here tomorrow, so we will have to see how it works. If you're after the best sequencing/audio package, don't settle for less than Logic Audio. Truly the best out there for high end multi media. Oh, and make sure it's the Macintosh version, The PC simply can't handle the work load when running at any capacity.
