Advantages: Does what is claims to do - right click on link to download streaming audio is very powerful

Disadvantages: Only 3 times faster than the speed of the audio stream itself

It takes no time at all to install and you find a powerful free program for downloading with no apparent trial restrictions.

My purpose was to download BBC "Listen Again" Real Audio .ram files much faster than listening takes, to convert the download to mp3 then listen on a portable player.

A careful reading of the Website before installing seemed to assure me that files are split and downloaded in simultaneous segments to accelerate the download by up to a factor of 5.

On downloading a 15 min clip, I could not achieve any faster than a 15 minute download. On downloading a 30 minute clip, I got a 10 minute download time.

Of particular note is the fact that once installed, you can right click on the "Listen" link on the Web Page in Explorer and download in a single final click operation. Very powerful and neat.

This is an efficient tool for scheduling such downloads. It would be nice if it was even faster than 3 times acceleration for streaming audio.

Summary: Powerful way to download streaming audio at about 3 times standard speed.

Caveats to the above review:

1. There were plenty of reports in 2007/2008 that there was a vital security hole in Flashget.

2. It is classed as a peer-to-peer application so may not pass corporate security if used on a work computer. You can supposedly switch off the file-sharing options but it makes no difference if the program is 'listed' as peer-to-peer.

3. Even in newer versions there are reports that once installed, even with default torrent stuff deselected in the options, there are still calls out being made to file sharing servers even in dubious countries. Need to edit a config file to defeat this completely.
