Frostwire is a new p2p (peer-to-peer) filesharing appllication build from the Limewire source code. The program has been given more changes and improvements than most other Limewire clones though and it has a much nicer cleaner look and a pleasant ice blue colour. It is also the equivalent of Limewire Pro as it has the turbo connection speed feature by connecting to one (or two, I'm not sure) extra ultra peers.

Frostwire also seems to filter out much more of the junk than the original Limewire does. There are a lot of dangerous viruses on p2p networks and Limewire doesn't seem to be able to filter most of them out. However, Frostwire does it quite well though it misses the odd few. I have also discovered that there are now some very nasty mp3 viruses on these networks.

Frostwire works in the same way as Limewire Pro (basically, it's Limewire Pro for free) in that it connects to the Gnutella network, popular protocol for many filesharing applications. There is also a facility for legally purchasing tracks which are then download to your 'Store Purchased' folder though admittedly it seems like a bit of a contradiction when they provide access to it all for free. However, by purchasing tracks legally you are then guaranteed to get a geuine file (not a virus) at a high quality audio bitrate.

To put it simply, Frostwire is a free version of Limewire Pro with a few enhancements and a nicer look. It's also much more reliable in my experience, though be warned: if you don't want the Ask Toolbar installed then check your installation options carefully when installing the program.
