Downloading a big file using a low-bandwidth-internet connection (just assume a 100 Mb file) which takes a long time to finish needs a download utility or a download manager.

?How is about using internet-accelerator to gain more speed in downloading a file?? might appear in your mind. Here I am going to tell you some facts on downloading issues (not on browsing issues).



My Observation

I have observed than an internet connection (using a phone dial-up system which is mostly applied mostly in my country for a home user) does not always deliver a stable connection. A high speed modem does not help at all; in this case, I have tried to use several 56 Kbps modems to establish internet connections, but the result I just receive a 19.6 Kbps connection averagely.

Technically I am sure that I have arranged the settings required on my system properly, such as DNS and Proxy (if it is required by several internet service providers) settings. Finally I come to a conclusion that the low-bandwidth-internet connection happens because the ISPs just provide each user with ?a small piece of bandwidth cake?. The more users registered to an ISP, the slower connection each member gain.



Internet Accelerators

I think that some readers must have ever faced the same problem as I am having now. We cannot do much. Then you might think of installing an internet accelerator utility on your system. Is it really helpful?

Well, in this case using internet accelerators (such as Netsonic) means nothing because they help only to show some main contents of hompages we have ever visited. The pages are saved in the internet cookies in our system. In another word the internet accelerators just help to display the pages we have ever visited before; it helps just browsing.

In another hand, using an internet-accelerator utility may cause a bit slower in your system. The utility tends to reside in the memory of
your operating system. It means some resources of the personal computer are reserved for the utility. Then as we know that some of the freeware acceleration utilities come with some spies (for advertising purposes). How many resources are used as the cost of the freeware?



Make a right choice
