Advantages: Quick, clean, easy to theme
Disadvantages: bit of a memory hog
Linux unlike Windows allows the user to totally change the look of the desktop. Infact you can change teh desktop it's self. At the moment I'm running GNOME but there are others such as KDE as well as running the GNOME desktop manager I also need a Window manager (as the name suggests it says how the windows are displayed ) for this I am currently running Enlightenment but I could use SawFish, Blackbox or TWMN to name just three. So what does your average Linux desktop look like well really there isn't an average desktop Enlightenment (like all linux window managers) can be themed. This isn't like a windows theme which changes the colours, fonts, icons, backdrop and screen saver. Nope with enlightenment you can go much further changing everything from what the title bars look like (Ie size pixmap and posision on the window) to how the windows behave (How the pop-up how they get the focues etc). For example if you liked the look of the computer displays in Star Trek then Enlightement could allow you to imitate these on your own desktop. For once a user can really say they have a desktop that is suited just to them after all they can change the desktop to suit them in everyway

Trixi - 13/01/01 My husband is a Linux man. I use it from time to time, but would like
to use it more. It allows a lot more flxibility and has less bugs. |
