Advantages: Faster, More reliable, Free
Disadvantages: Adverts, (unless you register)
Ever tried to download a large file? If you have a dial-up connection like me I’m sure you have screamed at your computer when you get disconnected in the middle of a download. This will never happen to you again if you get Go!Zilla. The best function of Go!Zilla is that it can resume downloads from any interruptions. So if you get disconnected you can just reconnect and your download will continue where it left off. You can also manually pause the download and start it again whenever you choose. You can do this for as many different downloads as you like. You can schedule downloads to start at whatever time you like – this way you can download when the servers are less busy and get higher download speeds. One of the best functions of Go!Zilla is the broken link detector. If you are trying to download a file and the link is broken, then Go!Zilla will automatically find other links to the same file. You can program Go!Zilla to use mirrors as well. IF there are several mirrors of the same file then you can make Go!Zilla constantly swap mirrors and get the fastest possible download. Whenever you click a link where the windows download box would normally come up; Go!Zilla appears and takes over. You can also manually insert links for Go!Zilla to download. Go!Zilla runs in the background whenever you are on your computer and pops up when necessary. I haven’t experienced any slow down due to Go!Zilla running in the background. However it doesn’t stop there, Go!Zilla has many more features and functions. If you can’t find the software or download you are looking for then let Go!Zilla look for it. Click the find button on the menu bar and search for whatever files you are looking for. You can use ‘update monitor’ to monitor the locations of the files you have downloaded – and alert you if a new version is available. Go!Zilla features a ‘leech’ function whi
ch will, when activated download all links from whatever page your choose. Go!Zilla has content channels which help you make the most of the Internet. These channels will keep you up to date with the files you are interested in. There are many different channels, from mp3’s to shareware. Of course if you can’t find a channel for you, just create your own! All of these functions and Go!Zilla is free and easy to use! The interface lets you do anything you want – fast, and it looks good. The only negative is that (unless you register [which costs $39.95]) you have to have an advert banner at the top of the Go!Zilla program box. The features don’t stop there either… when you download Go!Zilla you get Zip!Zilla – an unzipping utility which automatically unzips any zips files you download. You also get Gator – a program that automatically fills in any online forms for you. This is an excellent utility that now that I have it, couldn’t live without it. It has made downloading from the Internet a whole lot easier and faster. Considering it is only a 2.2Mb download – it is well worth it.

- 14/08/01 Excellent opinion. I have been using GoZilla for quite some time now, it's very good.
I prefer not to install Gator though. I also don't like Zipzilla it isn't as good as Winzip. Though it does the job well still. |
