Advantages: Quick and easy to use. Easy installation and can copy your current settings.
Disadvantages: In Beta, meaning no proper support. Probably remain there for years.
Google Chrome is a new browser from .... well, Google!
It is actually spelt Chrome and not Crome as the Dooyoo people would have you believe, so if you wish to search for it, that is the correct spelling.
The browser is fast to open and almost bland to look at. This doesn't sound good for most products, but for a browser, it is ideal. After all, you are looking at websites, not the browser buttons.
Installation was simple and you get the choice of importing your bookmarks, cookies, saved passwords and various things from Internet Exploder, Firefox or Opera.
There is no separate search box on Google Chrome, searching and type in an internet address are all done from the same box. A nice touch is that you can choose which search engine you wish to use, you are not tied to Google.
The internet address you browse has the main part highlighted in black, the rest in a light grey, so www.dooyoo.co.uk would be highlighted in black, the bit after the / is in grey.
This may not seem like a big deal to you, but it does help differentiate between www.paypal.com and www.paypal.com.scam.com at a quick glance for security.
There is a download folder which defaults to a file and some say this is a security risk and you should turn this off. I am unsure this is a risk, but here is how to turn the option to the recommended:
1) Click the spanner at the top right and go to options.
2) Click the tab at the top of this new window that says minor tweaks.
3) Next to download location, tick the box that will ask you where to save downloaded files.
Using the browser seems remarkably like most other browsers but with the difference that more screen space seems to be available to the website rather than the browser.
One negative of this, is finding options can be a little tricky at first, like how to bookmark a page or go to your default homepage.
I would certainly recommend giving this browser a try. It is a good start from Google and since very few will be using it at the moment (in comparison to other browsers), it will likely be very secure. Virus writers won't bother with a browser that is too rare.
I have had no problems, it is quick to load, easy to use the common features you will need and is an essential download if you are a webdesigner since not all browsers are created equal.
Summary: A nice browser and essential if you do web design.

- 03/10/08 Hotmail doesn't play nicely with it and a few other sites don't reconise it either. Other wise its a nice browser. Good review |
