Advantages: Very easy to use and navigate
Disadvantages: Now I have to choose between Chrome and Firefox
Google Chrome is a free to download web based browser similar to Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox. It has been developed and released by Google and currently hold a 1% share of the web browser market which for an application that only came out just a few months back is in my opinion a very good start.
Chrome was originally released for all windows xp and vista based pc's as a beta version on 2nd September 2008 and is currently being developed for use on mac and linux systems.
Like Mozilla's Firefox, Chrome must be installed into your pc as it does not originally come installed with it. You can find the
download and installation information at
http://www.google.com/chrome
Once installed onto your pc you will be able to use Chrome as a replacement for Internet Explorer, Firefox or whichever other web browser you may use.
Chrome has many features the first of which is the tab function which all those who use Firefox, Opera or Internet Explorer 7 will be familiar with. However Chrome does have a trick up its sleeve in regards to its tabs if you click and hold on the tab and drag it out of the browser screen it creates a separate running addition of Chrome.
Chrome has also done away with the menu tab at the top of the program (bit that has File Edit View and such like along it) however if you wish they can be added to the top of the application.
Chrome is remarkably quick in comparison to other browsers like Internet Explorer, Firefox 2 and Safari and is shown to be only slightly slower than the other new boy on the block Firefox 3.
For a beta version Chrome is very stable and during my time of using it I have not experience any major crashes and problems with it running a good majority of websites.
I found Chrome to be very easy to get used to mainly in part to me previously having used Firefox for so long, which I feel it has the most similarities to, but also because of its very user friendly operation.
Overall given that Chrome is being developed and marketed by internet leaders Google I personally feel it will be not long before it is Chrome and not Firefox who will become Internet Explorers biggest rival.
Only time will tell!

- 17/12/08 I have found my internet banking doesn't work properly with some of the lesser-known browsers. Even Safari can't display the site properly. I wonder how Chrome would fare. |
