Handbrake is a software application that can convert almost any video format into almost any other. Handbrake is available for free download and is available for Mac, Windows and Linux.

Handbrake can seem difficult to use however once you've mastered the basics its easy. You simply have to start it going then you can leave it to do its thing while you use your computer for something else.

Handbrake can be used to convert video so that you can watch it on your ipod, xbox, psp, ps3 and iphone. It is certainly a favorable option, especially where ipods are concerned as movies from the itunes store can be almost as expensive as DVD's and are far less useful.

I have had few problems with handbrake however it had crashed a few timew when I asked to convert some avi files. Also if using on a laptop do not close the laptop while it is going as it will then fail to convert the video properly.

Handbrake is a great, very useful piece of software that I would greatly recommend.
