Advantages: makes a clutter free, easy life
Disadvantages: updates al the time
Itunes is a digital media player created by those clever guys at Apple. Its primary function is to 'organise' your music for your Ipod, but it works brilliantly as a stand-alone virtual stereo too.
I love Itunes for a few key reasons. First off, it's free! Secondly, it's the perfect way to store your music. You can upload all of your CDs into it, and then lock your CDs away, no longer needing the hassle of cases and CDs everywhere. A few years ago you needed a stereo, but now you don't: simply plug a good speaker set into your computer and you're done.
My favourite feature is the podcasts. To access these, click on podcast, then 'directory', to be taken to a list of thousands of podcasts you can download. Podcasts are basically radio shows available online, and I download a variety from top American preachers to British comedy. Again, the free aspect is very cool here.
On a not free angle, is the itunes store, which you access through clicking on 'itunes store'. Here you can buy millions of tracks and albums from old to new hits. I personally never do this, but I know a lot of people who do, and it's a quick and easy way to buy music.
The only down-side of Itunes is how it always needs updating (every few months it seems) so you have to keep downloading new bits: I wish they'd just get it sorted once and for all!
One of the additional features I like is you can rate each track (out of 5) and then put your whole music catalogue in preference order (pretty cool). It also tells you how many times you've played each song, then gives you your 'top 25 most played' in a separate playlist (277 plays of 'the wheels on the bus' shows where our priorities lie in this house!)
Summary: do it!
