... Yes you can get some free servers from the internet but they tend to be a bit twitchy and unreliable. No good if you are building a commercial application. So name a good one Andy! Well, Im not saying it is THAT good. Im sure there are better out there but one I use is made by Macromedia. Famed for their Graphical tools, Macromedia jumped head first into the Java Market by buying up a company called Allaire. Allaire made a HTML tool called Homesite and a Java Server called JRUN. JRUN is what Im concentrating on h...more

Anyone who usess the web will have encountered Java more times than they could possibly ever dream of. Many of the games, animations, applet windows you see are written in the Java language. Of course, as a general web user you have absolutely no need to know this and no reason whatsoever to care. ou load the page, let the Java virtual machine do its thing and get on with your browsing. If on the other hand you have more than just a passing interest in Java and even might want to try your hand at learning Java either for fun, profit or enforced learning(my case) then read on... I'm not going to say much here, just give you the chance to save yourself more ...  Read the complete review

When you are programming in JAVA, which is one of the fastest growing languages in the I.T. industry, there are several requirements that you need to make your programs work. Firstly with JAVA, you need to "compile" your programs. This is basically taking everything you have written and making it into an understandable version for any computer to use. There are several tools to do this and some are better than others but you also need to sit the JAVA application somewhere. It needs to sit on something called a "Virtual Server". This is a program that does exactly what it says on the tin! It serves up the information as you need it from ...  Read the complete review

Java is in its purest essence a free enterprise level programming language based on C++ from a web/network perspective. There are several highlevel flavours of java: 1. Java - The daddy; used for building applications that can be run not necessarily through a web browser - e.g. you can run a java app from a dos prompt. 2. Javascript - java lite for webbrowsers - this allows you to run limited scripts from the webbrowser itself, including controlling windows, forms, validating input, etc. 3. Java Server Pages - similar to Active Server Pages (.asp files) - these web pages are compiled on the webserver on a need to have basis and are ...  Read the complete review

Object Orientated Programming.....yes it makes you shudder. Java is an OOP language and so i you are use to programming in such languages as c,basic and pascal, forget your present knowledge and start again!!! Probally he losest language to Java is C++.Both use classes to define objects, and each oject can represent a task in the program. For example, if you wrinting a game a class you create might be "Enemy", containing al the code for an enemy. You would then create many objects from this class to create many similar enemies.I personally think of classes as templates. Most people when they hear the word "Java" think of applets in ...  Read the complete review
