Limewire is a great tool for finding all the obscure and popular songs you could want, note you should only download songs that you already own in another format such as cd otherwise it is copyrigth infringement :). However you will also find every virus under the sun so i would reccomend you stick to only songs as programs are often viruses. Oh and also make sure your file has a audio extension such as mp3 its pretty easy to name a virus Britney Spears.

So now you know to be careful whats this limewire all about and how does it work i hear you ask. Well limewire works on the basis that other people share their songs and you share your songs, so if nobody shared songs you wouldnt be able to download songs yourself. This has major benefits and drawbacks over services such as iTunes. The first one being you will be able to find lots of different songs that iTunes may not beleive to be profitable enough to sell. You can also find the same song in many different formats and quality levels such as 320kbps song than the crappy 192kbps that itunes provide, also if you know about audio codecs youll know about flac. For those who dont flac is basically a format that makes a carbon copy of the song from CD so you wont lose any quality compared to mp3 which does lose definition and depth.

However the major drawbacks are as mentioned before viruses for a start, so make sure you are very careful with what you download and run anti-virus software and a firewall whilst using limewire. On top of this people often misname songs, dont ask me why they just do, so you think your downloading Britney and then you get the soundtrack to a porno, this actually happened to a friend of mine when she was showing her Dad how to use limewire so be careful. The final drawback to limewire is that the recording studios have started to upload files which have nothing on them to help combat piracy.

Overall limewire is a great tool when used in careful and well protected hands, dont let your 8 year old near it!!!
