Advantages: user friendly, lots of templates, well featured

Disadvantages: less powerful than Microsoft Word

Lotus office applications appear to be rather underrated due to living in the shadow of Microsoft Office for such a long time, but they do offer a realistic alternative at a very competitive price.
Lotus Word Pro is a versatile word processor which includes a vast amount of useful features. The general interface is simple to follow with self explanatory toolbars and menus.
On launching the program you are offered a choice of opening a previous document or creating a new one from the large database of templates. The templates cover such items as fax covers, calendars, newsletters and much more. There is even a choice of templates for creating a basic web site, although they are quite limited.
Once you have chosen your design it is simple to personalise the layout by varying the font or inserting images etc.
Lotus even offer filter support for opening Microsoft Word documents and converting them into Lotus format, but the filter varies in effectiveness depending on the version of Word imported and the degree of formatting applied to it.
Lotus does not offer the same power as Microsoft Word, but not many people ever use the vast array of features that Microsoft includes, so if you are looking for a good alternative at a far more attractive price then Lotus Word Pro is the sensible choice.
