Macromedia Flash 4

I downloaded the trial version of Flash 4 about 3 months ago and I loved it. I mastered the basics of creating motion for text and images and also added some sound. However that is far below the capabillities of the program. Many people think that you need Director to produce games and decent interactivity (to create shockwave) but as I found out last week, that is not true. I hired a book from my local library and it taught me how to build amazing games in flash and also how to build polls and guestbooks using php3 scripting. This is an essencial part of a web designers tool kit. Though the skills in Flash do NOT come easilly. The interface of the program is hard to use and is very unlike that of any of the other Macromedia programs though this should all be changing with the release of the much improved Flash 5. The program is difficult to learn though the basics can be achieved by using the tutorials in the program which unlike most programs tutorials are actually very good (but simple). I have used falsh for a while, since it came out. To be honest at first I found it very complex, difficult to use and somewhat fiddly - hosever, now that I have grasps some of the key concepts it wasn't long efore I was able to put to use its excellent array of tools, its mighty macromedia power and supurb graphics. Falsh is like nothing you have ever seen - instead of designed a page a time that links to differnt pages you actually have to build a movie. There is no doubt in mind that this program has revolutionised the web. I started using Flash 9 months ago when employed by Hull university to create content for a distance learning course. The manager wanted me to use Frontpage and only Frontpage. Being cheeky, and having had a quick go on Flash via the trial version at home, I asked him to get it. Boy, was he impressed. Easy to learn but difficult to master, I quickly found my way around the program and within a couple of weeks had enough knowledge to create nice looking, interactive content for the course. You may associate Flash with long download times in the UK. But when you consider that a lot of Internet users have faster access and the fact we are on the way Flash is going places. Some people hate it, but the fact is Flash is the future. Whether you are going to do the old HTML & Flash versions or an integration of both there are many positive things. The fact it streams so a lot of informtion can be thrown down the telephone lines. It took me a while to get into Flash, but with a good book you should get started quite quickly.
