Do you have any fond memories of any arcade games? Perhaps you can remember wasting away time when you were younger by blasting a few space invaders, or any of the other hundreds of games that would be found in Arcades up and down the country. If by any chance you do have an urge to play an old arcade machine, chances are you can do this now, just by owning a PC (or other supported platform), this piece of software and some ROM images for the games you wish to play (which can be downloaded from many sites). What is MAME? ============ MAME, is an emulator that emulates many different arcade machines, hence the name which stands for ... Read the complete review

MAME (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator) is a project that has been running since 1997. Basically, it emulates practically all the arcade machines you can remember from when you were a kid. If you’re old like me, and spent any time at all in the arcades, this will suit you down to the ground! In fact, the only game it doesn’t seem to emulate from that era (i.e. early/mid 1980’s) is Dragons’ Lair; any other arcade machine you can think of is probably catered for! Depending on what platform you want to run it on (there are DOS, Windows, Amiga, Mac and Linux ports to the best of my knowledge) you can download it from a number of sources ... Not just retro, but authentically retro... Most of us have probably wanted to play all those old games, the FOUNDING games, at one point or another. We hear of how important Space Invaders, Asteroids and Pac-Man were to videogaming, and we try to find them. Some adults might even be old enough to remember playing them in the arcade twenty years ago. No doubt most of you have played copies and clones that only hold your interest for five minutes. MAME is the real thing. It is a way to play the genuine arcade games on your PC, and most of the classics are supported. There are many versions of MAME and DOS is supported well. However, I think most ... Read the complete review

MAME is the Ultimate games emulator for the PC and other platforms. It allows you to play all the old arcade machines that you can fondly remember playing at those salty seaside resorts and many many more, using ROMS which contain all the game information from the arcade boards so that the games are more or less identical to their arcade counterparts. The great thing about MAME is that it's updated all the time and many programmers are writing bootleg versions to support more games and options, which eventually find their way on to the official version. I first came across MAME about 6 years ago, when it was only supported in DOS and had about 400 ... Read the complete review

I am not going to go on and on about how fantastic Mame is, that has been stated very well many times already and frankly if you are not convinced now you never will be. NOW JUST CONSIDER THIS AS PERVERSE LOGIC..... Like many other people I own hundreds if not thousands of pounds worth of games software with many of the latest titles in my posession, yet since discovering Mame I have temporarily lost interest in all of these and instead I choose to spend hour upon hour playing Moon Cresta (an early eighties space shoot em up)It's sad I know but there it is. You see that is what Mame is all about it allows saddo twenty and thirty somethings ... Read the complete review
