As with most people, I have no particular love of Microsoft. However, having seen Netscape's attempts at browsers (version 4, 4.7 and 6) I have to admit that either Microsoft are very good at making browsers or everyone else is rubbish. The thing I like most about MSIE 5.0 is that it actually (mostly) supports CSS. I didn't realise how much I was taking for granted until I downloaded Netscape Navigator 6, which is quite awful. While I've heard that the Mac version of IE is better, I'm quite happy with my Windows version. I also refuse to spend the time upgrading to 5.5 because from what I hear there are very few worthwhile upgrades (and even more ... Read the complete review

Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5 could be a great browser and it could wipe Netscape away if it didn’t have as many bugs which cause it to crash a lot. When Internet Explorer 5.0 crashes, the whole of Windows crashes but this problem is fixed in Internet Explorer 5.5. Otherwise its compatibility and correct positioning of objects is excellent. Its search tool is good, it allows you to get a street map and you can find out what’s going on in your area. It could have been a great browser, but lots of work has to be done. ... Internet Explorer is a cool web browser, which offers many functions, however, I think that it still needs to be improved. To many windows open can crash your computer which leads to you getting angry as you cannot remember the web page that you were on, which leads me to the favourites function. All you need to do is press Add favourites, click OK and the site has been added to your favourites! Yes, it is as simple as that! Although your favourites menu can get a bit busy and over crowded. ... Read the complete review

I don't know what it is about Microsoft, there products seem to get more dodgy with each new release and Internet Explorer is a prime example (in my experience). When I got my new PC over a year ago it came with Windows 98 (don't get me started on that one) which included Internet Explorer 4. It was OK, but it tended to be a bit iffy; freezing without warning or reason, crashing the system, etc. When IE5 was released, it promised better stability and a whole host of new features that I didn't notice. It wasn't more stable, if anything it was worse. I upgraded it by downloading all the patches that MS released on their website. It was OK, but ... Read the complete review

I have gone from being an absolute Microsoft fanatic to somewhat sceptical. My scepticism started about a year ago when I started having endless problems with Windows 98 and Explorer 5.0. My PC kept on completely locking up while I was surfing the web and the only way out was a complete reboot - very infuriating. Try getting support from Microsoft if you aren't on some sort of corporate life support system, virtually impossible. Since then I have upgraded to Windows 2000 (not through choice although it is a great improvement, I have to admit) and my problems have more or less vanished, touch wood! I have only one real gripe with Explorer 5 ... Read the complete review
