Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5

So you are using Microsoft I.E 5.5 Its a big product, and you will need a decent spec machine to run it on,but as browsers go it does the job. Personally I found my browsing slowed down somewhat when I installed 5.5, the older versions did not seem to run as sluggishly. However im only running on a 233Mhz machine, those of you with faster machines may not have that problem. There is not much difference between versions, at least on the surface, so upgrading is really a matter of choice - you dont have to. Well, Internet Explorer 5.5 has come in for a lot of criticism. Internet Explorer really has been criticised all through its history really. Probably due in no small part to the fact that it is a Microsoft product - and some people have a real problem with Microsoft products. IE 5.5 is good, but needs more tools & power to enhance browsing the Internet. Netscape 6 is also good, but falls short of Internet Explorer. Opera's also a good browser, but has need for a lot of enhancements to improve your browsing experience. Step in ... I have been working with computers for many years. My advise is not to risk upgrading to Internet Explorer V5.5. Stick with V5.01. Numerious people have attempted to upgrade, it often causes various problems, including illegal operations, connection problems Etc. You may say that you've had no problems, well yes, it does seem to work okay on about 70% of PCs. But on a full product, this is totally unacceptable. In worst case senarios IE 5.5 won't even desinstall properly after problems and you are forced to reinstall Windows from scratch. Yes I was a fan till I happened to sign up for a piece of software that was not 5.5 compliant and It corrupted a dll file, well could I uninstall and reanstall 5.5- no. So after a lot of hassel and many days off the net the only cure according to microsoft was to reinitialise my disc. "Does this happen alot?" I asked - well "yes" was the answer. The dll files have all been changed and they have not as yet been passed on to third party companies so be careful. It will happen to you and has happenend to many.
