Advantages: Instant chatting
Disadvantages: The hotmail server is down a lot
I recently obtained a hotmail account and downloaded the MSN Messenger service. I found it very easy to download, and followed the appropriate links through the Windows update page. I then added my friends email addresses who also had "passport" accounts. When one of my friends is on-line, a little window appears informing me that they are on-line. I can then send them an instant message. In the meantime, if any of my other friends come online, I can invite them to join in the conversation. It is like having a mini chatroom with only the people that you want there!! Also when chatting you can use various emoticons which are like gestures. For example if you type (d) a little wine glass appears, (y) is thumbs up and (n) is thumbs down. You can also do various faces, such as happy, sad, winking, shocked!! Apparently you can talk to each other if you have microphones, but I haven't tried that. Also if you are on-line and you don't want to chat, you can set your status to busy, away, be right back, or on the phone. All in all a very good service to keep in touch with your friends and relatives. It is free to download, so why not give it a try.
