Advantages: Many features like MSN today and customisation
Disadvantages: Now and again a virus pops up
MSN Messenger is probably the easiest way to speak and keep in touch with friends. All you need is an email address and after you have downloaded the software, you sign in and add contacts. It's very simple to use.
MSN is very different now to how it used to be. You can now have coloured and bold display names, sort your contacts in multiple ways into groups, appear offline while still being able to send and receive messages, see what people are listening to and add different themes to the background of conversation windows.
I've been using this for years and personally think it's much better than Facebook or Myspace to talk to friends. It's quicker and more private than those social networking sites and adds a degree of security. However, now and again there are viruses that get spread around. If your friend says something he wouldn't normally and sends a link, it's most probably a virus. This has been happening recently but it's nothing to worry about as long as you have an anti-virus program and don't click everything you see!
It's very customisable. You can change your display picture, font, colour, theme, personal message and so on. Everything is linked to your email as well which is very useful because if you go to a friend's house or get a new computer, all your contacts and settings will be the same when you sign in.
