MSN messenger is an online service - instant messenger - brought to us by the Microsoft Network. I have used it since 1999 when it was launched, and I have learnt a lot about online communication as a teenager, and the advantages of the software.

For a normal PC user these days, online communication has become an integral part of life, and MSN messenger doesn't fail to serve us.
It has text messaging capability which is a quantum leap from the dos' IP messaging that we used long back. It has emoticons which are the smiley faces that users use to express their emotions via text - with the most common ones being :) , :( or :D - which are emoticons for smile, sad and laugh.

Another important feature in MSN is the voice chat, it uses the users' microphone and speaker to create a voice communication platform, and the quality heavily depends on one's internet speed and quality.
It is complete with the video chatting capabilities for those with good internet and a webcam, through which people from across the world can communicate to each other by means of streaming live webcam images.
After the new versions that have come out ( WLM - Windows live messenger ) the features have become endless, with games and other applications that makes communication even more interesting.

There are also ways to group your contacts to make it more organised, and it is now possible to add yahoo contacts as well making it a multi platform software.

For people who have a lot of friends, or send a message across to more than one, there is a group conversation feature that I have used frequently!

No matter how many social networking services come out, MSN messenger will still be the undisputed king of online communication!
