Advantages: can help you make friends, fun, good when you're bored
Disadvantages: viruses, addictive!
I got MSN about a year ago, and since then (sad this is I know), I feel that I couldn't do without it! Basically it enables you to chat to as many of your friends (or people on your list) as one time as possible, providing that they're signed in. You add you friends or aquaintance's email address, and then start talking! If someone who you don't like, or don't want to talk to adds you, then you can easily block them, and they won't know whether you're online or not. I have managed to make many friends online, by adding friends of friends and people who I vaguely know. I get chatting to them, and when I next see them in real life, we have already spoken (even though not physically), and we'll have something to talk about, and a reason to say hi to each other. In this way, MSN has helped me to branch out connections and have a more fulfilling social life! I also have a friend who lives in Spain, and through MSN, I can keep regular contact with her and this can only be a good thing. It is also free, well besides the cost of the internet, and saves a lot of money that you may originally spend phoning your friends simply because you 'fancy a chat'. You can read other peoples' profiles and create your own, including a photo. You can send cute little emoticons epressing your feelings to others, and these just generally liven the conversations up! Naturally my parents aren't particularly fond of MSN. They feel that I spend too much time on it, and that I should go and talk to people face to face. But living in a tiny village away from all my friends this isn't as easy as it sounds. Also, I have had virus' from MSN - I can't remember their names, but one was a hugely annoying one which sent out loads of emoticons and made no one want to talk to me! I also have one at the moment which I contracted on Valentines Day. It consisted of the other person saying 'Happy Valen
tines Day!' and telling you to go to a site. This virus is quite bad and rewrites the computer files. It's really annoying and I'm in the process of trying to get rid of it, but whether I can or not...

- 17/02/02 I've only recently downloaded this, after years of using Yahoo.
Whether or not it's taking time to get used to it I don't know, but at the moment ..... Yahoo is still best!
Could never get on with ICQ either ..
