Advantages: free, good meeting place
Disadvantages: crashes somtimes
It was back in december 99 when i was first introduced to the phenomenon that is Msn Messenger. Having spent half a day in a college lecturer we decided to go for a skive in the library. My friend introduced me to msn messenger. Having spent a few hours on msn chat I found that with messenger I had a point of contact for my net friends. It was so useful and simple. It would tell me how many emails i have and who is online. Having been using it for many years now I find it gets better and better. When switching on my computer, the all important msn pops up - having it set to log me in automatically (only useful if you are the sole computer user -otherwise other people may offend your contacts - WHOOPS.) From then automatically check my mail - no further sign in required - just press the hyperlink and away we go! Then below this i am greeted by 5 subheadings - these are automatically set as Co-workers, family, friends, new group and other contacts. These group names can be changed simply by a right click on the name producing a pop up box and then clickin on rename group. I kno that this is only a minor point, but it does show the depth involved in this program. Very reliable program which rarely is out of operation. Along the side there is a toolbar consisting of 9 different images, each redirecting you to an msn related site, including money, love and shopping - WOT MORE DO WE NEED! Its very easy to add a contact. Having found someone in a chatroom then all you have to do is click the add a contact link which is based under the existing contacts box, and input the email address of the person. It allows you to have around 150 contacts on your list at 1 time. But alas dont worry , if you get bored of someone you can delete them, or if you come across the stalker type(perish the thought! *LOOKS AROUND*) then it allows you to block the contact from messsaging you. You can basically chop and change your contacts. It even records a list of pre
viously deleted contacts and blocked contacts - so if you feel a little bored then you can readd or unblock - Oh so nasty i kno. Recently msn have even introduced a games system where you can invite a contact to take you on in a game of checkers or such like. On the top toolbar there are five main options. 1 -You can invite a further contact, so you can partake in a threeway fourway or conversation with up to 9 people. Highly suitable if you have a story to tell all your friends - allows great interaction , similar to a chatroom but with people you like and trust. 2 -You can send files to ur contact, maybe a holiday photograph or a picture you have drawn, meaning they can share your vision. 3-You can initiate a webcam conversation. You can type to your contact and they can see u at ur worst - FANTASTIC FUN! 4-You can set up an audio conversation - if both of you have access to a microphone and a sound card on ur computer then you can have a conversation - very suitable for talkin to people abroad for free! 5-You can launch the games option I mentioned previous. The program allows you to use various font types and colours - meaning you can personalize your messenger experience. Then you have access to emoctions (pictures of happy and sad faces etc) These images add a bit of colour to ur conversation. Basically there is so much involved in this package. Ive made so many good friends through this and many of whom I have gone on to meet and bond strong relationships with. Give it a try people. Go to a search engine and type in MSN messenger and follow the instalation instructions - easy and fun. Wheneva im on a chatroom and some1 says they dont have msn messenger i just sigh - they are missing out. BEST OF ALL ITS FREE - CHEERS BILL!
