Advantages: easy to use and install, good web camera quality
Disadvantages: it can be really busy
I have been using Microsoft NetMeeting for quite a while now to meet up with my friend both in the UK and abroad and I have found in an excellent FREE way of communicating with my friends. If you have MSN Messenger then you can find this package with it. Microsoft NetMeeting allows you to video conference with your friends. The picture and sound quality are excellent. If you have a web cam then get on this because I have not found anything as good a quality as this. You do need to sign up with Microsoft if you have a Hotmail account or are already a member of MSN. Simply look up your friend on the net, that means you may need their hotmail address or email and they will see if they are online. If they are then simply connect on- and then you’re NetMeeting with you’re friends. You can invite as many friends as you like but I try to stick to two or three otherwise the programme can be slowed down a bit especially since most of my friends have webcams. The only thing is that if your online then expect some lets say ‘weird’ and bizarre invites from some very ‘strange’ people. They can look you up in the directory and gate crash your conversation but you do have the option of ignore. A tip is to not to pick a very popular or intriguing username otherwise you will attract some weirdo’s. Most of the times the quality of conferencing is really good. But if MSN is down sometimes it can be impossible to get a connection which can be frustrating. The sound quality is generally very good, but again at times it can be awful. The best thing about NetMeeting as to be the picture quality from your webcam, it is crystal clear. There is a five second delay but the quality is just brilliant. I do use NetMeeting quite a lot now. It’s better than Messenger because it gives you all there features plus the added bonus of using your web cam. The procedure of connecting on is very eas
y. You can be seeing your friends miles away in front of you in minutes-that’s if they are online. If you haven’t used NetMeeting then do try it. It won’t take long to get the hang of and you could be net meeting in minutes. Apart from the odd technical fault I haven’t experienced any other problems.
