Advantages: Tighter control, IntelliSense makes coding easier

Disadvantages: Enterprise edition is expensive

Being an experienced user of both Microsoft Visual C++ and Borland C++ Builder, I have grown to love them both for different reasons. If you want to quickly write a graphically based Windows application then Borland's VCL triumps with its re-usable components which can be added to tour application at the click of a button and its time-saving event handling routines.

If you are a serious coder however, Microsoft's Visual C++ provides an effective tre-style map of the functions contained within your program. The MFC does not nearly compare to Borland's VCL in terms of ease-of-use, although when writing the actual, Visual C++'s "IntelliSense Technology" makes life much easier than in C++ Builder.

Overall, if you want Rapid-Application-Development, or if you are relatively new to C++, Borland C++ Builder may be the bettwe choice, but for more experienced programmers Microsoft's Visual C++ is, in my opinion, by far the best choice.
