Advantages: Best VB implementation bar none

Disadvantages: Clunky interface, no refraction

Covering the pre-.NET languages supported by microsoft, this is a sturdy tool for development - as long as you are developing using microsoft frameworks of course. I have developed MFC, DirectX and .COM objects using this tool and can vouch for it's usefulness here (not sure about the newer dx 10 framework however). Lack of clear documentation here can be overcome by buying one of the many books that litter amazon nowadays but overall I find this IDE to be slightly clunky. The autocomplete (intellisense) works "ok" in this edition but is nothing to write home about. Lack of refraction tools makes this a pain for larger projects but you get used to it in the long run. The web development tool is nigh on useless nowadays, so please dont purchase for that alone! The VB included is probably the best feature here as it is relatively straight forward and packs more speed than its .NET counterpart in general execution time.
