Web Express

I have tried most of the current HTML editor programs and when I see reviews and comments 1 program never seems to be mentioned. Web Express by Micrivision Development. They have a website at www.mvd.com, I am currently using version 3.0.

Web Exp is like many other html programs out at the moment in as much as it is a WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get). It is very easy to use its layout of toolbars etc is logical and well thought out. If you have used a program like Word or word perfect you will be able to use Web Exp.

As for the html side of things it will do frames, cascading style sheets, in fact everything that some of the more popular programs such as Dreamweaver 3 can do.

The main reason I tried Web Exp is that I wanted a program not to design web pages but a program that could design a whole website. This Web Exp does very well all the pages on your site are shown in a tree view like windows explorer, each link from page to page is shown, this is very useful as it shows a broken link as a broken page.

When you first run Web Exp you have the option of using a wizard to make a more basic site or making a more advanced site on your own. This is useful for beginners and experts alike.

Because Web Exp designs sites it means you can control many sites at once, I currently have to update 3 websites on a daily basis and I can load each 1 into Web Exp and then make changes etc.

I have added Java scripts from other sites and self created scripts all with ease. And you also can view your site in the browser of your choice as a test.

Web Exp gives you the opportunity to upload your site via FTP. Although I use an external program (FTP Explorer) by choice.

So far this is pretty much as other packages, so why do I like it. Compared to Dreamweaver 2 & 3 I found the more standard windows interface easy to use, compared to Front Page Express I found the display e.g. showing of bac
kgrounds etc much better. And compared to all other programs I have tried I found that the places to find something e.g. Table properties are easy to find and set.

Having purchased this program I also received a nice thick manual that was very easy to follow. There is also help via a normal windows help file.

I have created over 40 websites with Web Exp and have found 2 bugs that hopefully will be addressed in a later version.

1) Sometimes Web Exp swaps frame names, you just change them back and all is ok.
2) Sometimes when you copy an image to your work directory it just exits the program.

These are annoying and only happen occasionally, but I still save regularly to make sure.

Overall I highly recommend Web Exp whether you are new to web design or an old hand.
