No doubt this will be a controversial opinion, there will be those who agree and those who disagree, those who support the principals behind file sharing and those opposed to it. Whatever your stance, approach or outlook sites like Morpheus are here, they have been around for a while and will no doubt be here to stay.

As one site is taken down, often after bitter legal battles, another one rises up from the ashes like the Phoenix.

Morpheus is another one of the many sites from which you can download virtually anything, movies, music, software, pictures and much more. It is a network of users who are prepared to share files on their computers with others throughout the world. They are also breaking the law too. Quite simply it is theft, pure and simple. A lot of money is invested into the production of movies, music and software and people’s livelihoods depend on it. How do you feel when someone STEALS your opinion from CIOA!, maybe the investment is not the same, but it is your work, yours to distribute, yours to share if you want, for others to use it as they wish certainly puts me into a state of heightened annoyance and sometimes even anger. Many fellow CIAOers feel the same way.

Morpheus started life as a gateway for people to share news items, the real truth about what was happening in the world. People were encouraged to share their own vide
o pictures and news reports of current events so often censored by the 'Real Media' or governments. This was the peoples chance to tell the true events as they saw them and to share footage of current affairs and topical issues. Very admirable.

For a while it worked, and to an extent it still does; but now it has fast become an outlet for those willing to risk copyright infringement and to pedal pornography as I have warned earlier.

Now you can download virtually any movie, music track or piece of software. What is more disturbing is the fact that you can download some pretty vile and disgusting pornography too. It has become another outlet for people too cheap to spend money to obtain goods.

You can get just about anything from Morpheus if you are prepared to spend the time downloading it. Seen the latest Harry Potter Movie? No, why not, it's just come out at the cinema. Oh, you don't want to pay to see it, or later buy the video or DVD. Okay, just spend a few hours downloading it from this site and it's yours, free of charge. The same applies to that software program you always wanted but could never afford. It is here for the taking. Again

Some say that the movie and software companies make enough money as it is, so what is it to them if a few people ‘Pirate’ their work. Take this fact about The Harry Potter film.

So what is a few extra bucks, pounds or whatever to them? A loss of revenue, that’s what, revenue = jobs, it effects future production and it does effect the overall economy within the industry itself. Piracy in any shape or form has been around for centuries, and it will be around I would suspect, for evermore.

Yes I have used Morpheus, I was intrigued by what it offered, or claimed to offer, yes I have seen movies downloaded from it, call me a hypocrite, I’ve been called worse. I have often managed to find some of my old favourite TV Episodes; that, perhaps is no different to taping off your own TV. But sit back as I did and think what you are doing. Think of the consequences of being prosecuted for copyright infringement. Sure it can be a difficult thing to prove, but the penalties are high. What is more, and far worse though, are those who are profiting through this by the onward sale of pirated products on CD to others. They are the real leaches, making money from someone else’s hard work. We have all, I am sure, at some time or another been guilty of these crimes, the Internet makes it easy. I have thought twice about this now and see it from another perspective to the one I did before.

Morpheus’ Policy is that they do not condone piracy; they even give details on how to report it, yet they themselves do nothing to prevent it. Neither, it seems do they do anything to protect our children from the hidden dangers of porn.

Ultimately the choice is yours.
Let your conscience be your guide. Just remember this, if you had a product of your own, would you want to lose revenue through its illegal use or for someone else to profit from your hard work. Or, how would you feel if your child downloaded a seemingly innocent film only to view it and find it was nothing more than a graphic and violent SEX FILM !!
