Advantages: you can get singles songs without having to get the whole album

Disadvantages: the whole moral copyright thing

Before Napster finding MP3's was a very lengthy hunt across many websites trying to find what you were after. Now anything you can think of is now available at one location.
So why all the fuss over copyright etc ? Well let's be honest it is practicing some very dodgy ethics on copyright. I can completely understand bands like Metallica taking Napster to court. If you had created something of your very own and it was you line of work you wouldn't be happy if people then gave away your work for nothing without your consent. Having said that Metallica are in a financial position where they needn't worry about money. but it's not really the point.
The thing I like about NAPSTER is that I can get those songs that you hear on the radio after many years and think " I like that song but I've never owned it". It may be the only song you like from the artist and you'd be loathed to fork out for an entire album when you only want one song. It's also a great opporunity to get live tracks from bands that you normally wouldn't have access to.
I personally can notice a slight differance in sound quailty between MP3 and cd. If I like the track that much i would buy the cd in the end as the quality I believe is better overall. Also you have the recording in your hand and not sitting on your hard drive exposed to loss through deletion or crashing.
People are saying that in the future MP3 will replace cd. I don't beleive this for a minute. At the end of the day you like to have something in your hand, something which actually has material value. There's also that instinct inus whihc loves to go trawling through record shops trying to find gems.

Totally on the ball! Right on about the fact that you can own trax that you'd never before been able to own / capture off the radio.

But you're also right about the risk of deletion. I may have been naughty to have 'a few' trax on my drive but justice was served when my cpu formatted (AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!! !!!!!)
