Advantages: Get the most out of napster
Disadvantages: None
Hey folks!! I'm a huge Michael Jackson fan and Napster has been the only way that I have managed to obtain some of his rarest hits. Unfortunately, this did not happen all at once. I ran a search just for his name, leaving the song field blank. What came up was a list of his biggest hits, all of which I already had. I was disappointed that this was apparently all I would be able to obtain. However, I decided to use a different search criteria which has unearthed many different songs and mixes I would never have otherwise have found! What you do is put the artist name in the artist field, and in the song field you can insert any one of the following words, to get the most out of your favourite artist: - Instrumental - Karaoke - Rare - Unreleased - Remix - Mix - Radio - Bootleg - Acapella - Live - Vs - Album - Interview - Dub - Maxi - Edit - Demo - Acoustic The 'Vs' search is reeeeally useful. For example, I managed to find a DJ's remix of the song 'Lady' by Modjo and the song Smooth Criminal, with the backing track for lady playing and the vocals of Smooth Criminal over it. I've got tons of such remixes (2pac Vs. Michael Jackson, Sisquo vs. Michael Jackson... Not to sound limited to MJ, I also got an Eminem vs. Britney Spears mix which was better than BOTH the original songs they sampled!). The 'Live' search is also great because it returns live performances which are often different to the original songs which you may already have. Often with an 'album' search you can get most of the tracks from an album which you are looking for. The 'karaoke' and 'instrumental' searches are great because with these songs you can have a sing-along!!! Also, you do get to appreciate the composition of the song a lot more because you are not distracted by the
vocals. <br>The 'rare' and 'unreleased' searches speak for themselves in terms of merit! The 'bootleg' search will often come up with bootleg remixes of songs and often will dig up some rare material by that artist. You will also get a list of remixes by running a 'radio' search, or by searching for the words 'mix' or 'remix' in the song title. Depending on how big the artist is, if you try the 'interview' search you might get something who knows! Try it for yourself, and if anybody has any other tips please let me know!!!

- 26/12/00 Thanks for the search tips. There's nothing more annoying than searching for an artists and finding 100 different versions of the same song!!! |
