Advantages: Used to be able to download any song!, Meet new people on the chatrooms
Disadvantages: Currently Blocking People From Sharing Files, Quite Slow Downloading
I was very annoyed when I heard that the goverment had stopped transfers from going ahead on Napster. Back in February 2001, every major artist's songs where blocked from being downloaded, leaving just unknown or bad quality tracks. Here are the reasons I want Napster to be reinforced again: *Firstly, millions of people used Napster everyday to test out singles before they bought them. For example: If you were wondering whether or not you should buy the new Janet Jackson album, you could download a few of the songs, and if they were any good then you'd know to it'd be good to own. *Many people can't afford to go splashing out on CD's whenever they want some new music to listen to. The average price for a one disked album is £10:99! *Napster is just one of thousands of devices that can download full tracks. Aimster and Morpheus are another two music devices which haven't been stopped, and they can download full music videos as well! *All the major record companies make enough money as it is! They don't do anything about recording CD's onto another disk (which is breaking copyright laws), so why stop Napster? When in full swing, Napster is a brilliant step in the ever changing world of technology. It consists of : *A section where you can download almost song you like. You can tell the quality of the song by seeing how big the size of the download is. *Many different chatrooms where you can discuss anything. If you want to talk to an individual person, you can start a private chatroom. *If you want to know when your friends are online, there is a "hotlist" which you can add people onto. *There is a news page, which informs you of fresh new sounds you can experiment out on. *And of course, a file library where your music saves after it's been downloaded. Here are a few of Napster's down sides: Downloading can be a slow process, especially if t
he size of the song is over 5 megabytes. And sadly, as soon as your internet disconnects, the download gets an error. Luckily, you can set the Napster preferences so that if your computer does disconnect, however much you got through saves into your library. And one last thing, if the person you're downloading off decides to go offline, the transfer will quit. At the moment, there's no point in getting Napster stored onto your computer. But, if within the next few months it is allowed to continue sharing transfers, it's definetly worth acquiring!

rob_writer - 06.12.01 Good op, but I only rated U as its a bit out of date - Napsters gone, it's never coming back and everyone knows that. And to be honest, compared to whats out now, Napster was pretty pants!
