Netscape Navigator 6.0

My first browser was Netscape. IE was not bundled with Win95 I was using. I liked it a lot and I became a fan of Netscape. I don't have the best of the feelings for Microsoft so IE was not even a thought even my uni was using Netscape. I left the uni for summer Netscape was at 4.6. Netscape 6 has been long awaited by those of us used to using the 4.x version. I've used that for some time, successfully, but I had issues with it. Specifically, the way it crashed whenever I asked it to do anything useful. So when Netscape 4.x died on me, I ran a whole disk diagnostic, swept out all the unusued files and gubbins I didn't need, and POUNCED on Netscape 6 via FTP. What a waste of time THAT was. After seeing reviews and comments on Netscape 6, I decided to give it a try. I went to the site, and downloaded it (which took an absolute age, because there are multiple files, which are a large size (about 5 mb each)), then installed it. The stupid thing is that it keeps on nagging you to sign-up to their netscape services, so that they can essentially e-mail you offers and ads. If you decide not to sign up, then every time you open the program, it will ask you. Netscape probably look back to the mid-90's with fond nostalgia. At that time I was starting to find out about the web and Netscape Navigator was *the* browser of choice. When Navigator 2 was out, it really had little competition, while Navigator 3 was, without a doubt, a better product than IE3 - it could handle frames and tables that its competitor would choke on. However, things started to change with the version 4 browsers. Netscape 6 does indeed defy all logic and expectations. After the disappointing Netscape 4.x, I was loosing all hope that Netscape would ever catch up with Microsoft again in the browser stakes – Microsoft seemed almost undefeatable with its powerful browser platform that improved upon every new release. Indeed, Netscape’s failure to keep up with the market is still clear within the statistics: almost 80% of people on the web now use Microsoft’s competing browser as opposed to Netscape, but this is surely about to change… Netscape packs a mighty punch with its new browser that surely cannot be ignored.
