Advantages: AIM integrated, looks nice.

Disadvantages: Not memory efficient, address bar is buggy, can take a while to load, minimal short-cuts.

After seeing reviews and comments on Netscape 6, I decided to give it a try. I went to the site, and downloaded it (which took an absolute age, because there are multiple files, which are a large size (about 5 mb each)), then installed it.

The stupid thing is that it keeps on nagging you to sign-up to their netscape services, so that they can essentially e-mail you offers and ads. If you decide not to sign up, then every time you open the program, it will ask you.

So, I signed-up and got into the program itself (it just holds on one screen for about 20 seconds for some reason before loading the program). The first impression is that it looks so nice, that it has to be good. In some ways it is, because it has AIM integrated into it and a spell checker for checking your emails, which you can also send from the Netscape program.

Although after a while, it just feel horrible to use, mainly becasue it runs so much slower than IE. You get the distinct impression that they are trying to get kids and women to use it because it has a nice layout, with schemes that you customise by downloading extra buttons for the navigation bar, thus forgetting to make it memory efficient and fast.

There are quite a few little niggles that put you off, like when you click the address bar with IE, it will highlight all the text, and you just press Delete and type in the address of the place you want to go to, but in Netscape it doesn't highlight it all, so if you have a long URL in your bar, then to get rid of it and type in a new one, you have to scroll along, Delete, scroll a little more Delete. This can be very annoying. Plus there are shortcuts with IE like typing something in, and press enter while holding ctrl, and it will wrap the "http://www." and the ".com" around your phrase. Netscape doesn't seem to have any user-friendly shortcuts like these.

If you are accustomed to IE, then there is no way that you wi
ll be able to use this program, because it is sloppy, and the fact that you would need *at least* 64MB RAM to run it with any joy. This is a miss for me.
