NOD32 is again #1 virus detector in the world, with 100% detection of all virus classes (types) in Virus Bulletin of April 2001. This makes THREE times consecutive of a clear 100% detection.

It is very hard to make this TRUE 100% DETECTION achievement even one time, because is so many new virus in the wild at each day. In my experience, I think I am correct, only prior were two anti-virus programs to accomplish this, one time each - Frans Veldman's TBAV and Eugene Kaspersky's AVP.

So NOD32 programmers are in good reputable company with the 2 "Great Men" of anti-virus heroes, but becoming now greater than both.

I say in my prior opinion that sometimes Virus Bulletin "100% Award" can misleading a little part. Here you can see my meaning, at www.nod32.com.au, Australian web site of NOD32.

In November 2001 Virus Bulletin test, NOD32 has exhibit 100% virus detection, but he is not given VB100% because he develops one false alarm.

The Symantec-Norton Anti-Virus 2001,in same test fails to detect 297 virus, but he wins VB100% because he develops no false alarm. (?) This is strange to my mind.

If you can understand why the calculation to elaborate the "win or lose" parameter of VB100% is so silly, you are more clever thinking than me.

I will prefer one false alarm above 297 undetected virus any day of my life. :-)

But of course, do never fall into false security, by thinking "My scanner will detect 100% of all viruses." This is not possible to accomplish for anyone, 100% of all times.

There is no substitute for your own caution. Your anti-virus program can keep you only as much protected as you allow by your own actions.

I advise "Safe Hex" at all times!

I am Government Security Advisor on computer virus by profession. I test and analyze the anti-virus programs, the part of my every day working life.

Each anti-virus company claims his "brand name" is #1 for virus detection, sometimes more than 60,000 viruses claimed. In truth there can be only a little more than 40,000 of "real" viruses, of these I own the samples. All other of many thousands of "detected viruses" are mutations (varients) or "non-virus" samples, to inflate and exaggerate the total detection figure, perhaps for the advertising purpose. It is therefore difficult for general people (public) to know who is #1 anti-virus, you must rely on the testing of some other for advice.

From professional anti-virus testing bodies, for the most part, Virus Bulletin (www.virusbtn.com) is the most reliable, but the online report is "representative" and can sometimes a little part be misleading. The Virus Bulletin 100% Award does not mostly mean the named anti-virus detected 100% of all virus, but it is instead the close approximation. (In my memory, only ever three anti-virus programs detected the "TRUE 100%" of all virus in every category - TBAV, AVP, and NOD32.) To read the detailed Virus Bulletin analysis, you must subcribe to the magazine.

For the most part, the top three anti-virus in Virus Bulletin testing are from Russia or former Russian State programmers. For some years, Kaspersky (AVP) has been #1, but now for more time than one year Eugene Kaspersky is overtaken by work of Miroslav Trnka and Palo Luka, great-minded programmers of Eset (NOD32).

In February 2001 Virus Bulletin, order of rank is #1 NOD32 (Slovakia), #2 Doctor Web (Russia), #3 Kaspersky AVP (Russia). So my former country men are still the world's best anti-virus men, 1-2-3. :-)

(In my own testing, for 1.5 years past, NOD32 (former name NOD-ICE) for the mo
st part has been #1 in each test, as with Virus Bulletin tests.)

The difference of detection is not so great between this three programs, only a small number of viruses, but if one of this small number is the virus that infects you, then the difference is great, to you.

But examine the difference of detection of this three programs, above the detection of other popular programs, and it is very significant! In some cases this group of three programs is ahead of other popular anti-virus programs by HUNDREDS of viruses!

One reason for NOD32's high detection efficiency is a very powerful heuristic analysis, which can identify many new virus before it is written. This heuristics has historically showed its brilliance by detecting, first in the world, many "world tragedy" viruses - CIH, Melissa, Love Letter, Marburg, Anna Kournikova, and many others of a long list - detected as "a virus", but not knowing its name at the first detection.

Some anti-virus people mock heuristic analysis (from jealousy, because he cannot accomplish it ?) he says it produces many false alarms, but my testing records show that in 1.5 years (many tests) NOD32 produced less false alarms than any other who mocks him. It is a fact that Virus Bulletin test, February 2001, NOD32 is the ONLY anti-virus that detected 100% of all viruses in every category, and with ZERO false alarms! So some others mock, and I laugh at their futile mockery. :-)

NOD32 is the most easiest of all anti-virus programs to install and set up. A newly introduction POP3 e-mail scanner gives automatic set up of your e-mail accounts in Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Outlook Express. Updates and Upgrades are automatic downloaded from the home web site.

Producer (Eset) home web site is www.nod32.com, but I prefer to use the new Australien web site www.nod32.com.au. It is the same program and price for both web sites, but the Australien web site is re
fined with some improved loading speed and some better English Language translations, and some interesting extra links to reviews also.

For the home users or professional users, NOD32 is not expensive to obtain the best (consistently) virus detection in the world, and it is my foremost recommendation for the best value for your spent anti-virus money.

This is the greatest news for any person wishing to test this program fully for your own self, because prior, without purchase, it was available only the download of the demonstration (a little part crippled) version.

Now you can test "the real thing". :-)
