I have LOADS of software including the ones that most people buy to protect their PCs but the reason I'm writing this review is that the piece of software that has been my saviour most often is Fix It Utilities. I can't remember why I bought it but there must have been something on the packaging that caught my eye. I hardly paid any attention to the software until I had yet another problem with Windows Millenium Edition and tried to repair the hard disc whilst it was still the main drive in my PC. Whilst exploring the options for recovering the data on the hard drive and expecting a prompt asking if I REALLY wanted to format the hard disc, the Windows ME installation program just went ahead and started formatting my hard drive. I turned the power off on my PC and now had a completely useless hard drive.

The work around for this came at the suggestion of a computer engineer who sold me an external USB hard drive that contained an identical drive to the one that was now corrupted. I swapped the hard drives around so the faulty one was in the external USB drive case and the new one was inside my laptop.

After installing Windows ME and Fix It Utilities on the new drive I was able to recover files from the corrupt, now USB, drive EVEN FROM THE PART OF THE DRIVE THAT HAD BEEN ACCIDENTALLY FORMATTED!!!! So Fix It Utilities doesn't care that much if the FAT has been completely destroyed. With some people charging insane prices to recover data from wrecked hard drives, this software saves you an absolute fortune and I now know that whatever Windows ME does to me, the next time I have a problem, I can swap hard drives and fix things much more easily.
