Advantages: Free, great GUI, loads of tools!

Disadvantages: Not for very advanced users.

I have used PSP for many years now, through all its versions, and I feel that version 6 has a lot to offer...

If you didn't know this, Paint Shop Pro, developed by "Jasc Software" has been around for a long time, and is leading the market in budget graphics utilities. I for one, use it a great deal for designing web page graphics, and defacing photos of people I dislike! ;-)

It is a free download, although hefty for 56k users (yes, I am one - long live analogue...) but it is certainly worth it. PSP is shareware and has a 30 day trial - after 60 days you won't be able to run the program. The idea is you have to pay to use it after the trial period. This may be worthwhile, as it boasts many features. As well as the standard painting tools, it includes loads of filters, effects and deformation options, as well as advanced tools for touching up pictures, and an animation workshop for makinf pictures for use on web sites!

Obviously it has rivals, but I doubt that you will find another paint program in the price range, that is as easy to use as PSP 6. "Adobe Photoshop" is more professional, with thousands of extra things added on, but this is expensive, and for the basic user, the extras are not required.

Download PSP now, as you will be able to create stunning graphics with it from the moment you open the program, as its GUI is very simple to use.
