Advantages: Copy to/from iPod
Disadvantages: No pic or video yet
For a while I had searched for a decent alternative to Apples iTunes software to work with my iPod, not really that I was unsatisfied by iTunes is was just I wanted to do something iTunes would not allow me to. I found quite a few pieces of software and tried a couple of others before using PoddoX, the others I tried either did not work at all or were not suitable.
PoddoX is available as a FREE download from:
http://www.poddox.com/ipod-software-download/
PoddoX is an executable file that does not need to be installed to run which means you are able to copy it to the Ipod. Doinfg this means that you can connect your iPod to any computer and you will have the software you need right there on the iPod.
PoddoX allows you to copy music from your PC to your iPod, but importantly you are now able to copy from your iPod back to your PC or to other iPods.
At first glance the software look amazingly simple and frankly a bit rubbish looking, the program in fact only need 100kb of storage space. When you open up PoddoX a small square box appears on your screen with the following options:
Music
Photos
Video
Extra
Settings
At the bottom of the screen it will display your Ipod info, just connect up your Ipod and PoddoX will automatically detect it and it will appear here.
When you select music the display in the box will show the contents of the Ipod connected, you have the option here to copy selected tracks to the PC or remove tracks from the iPod.
In the setting section you are able to register PoddoX onto your Explorer window, this is really useful as it enable easy copying to the iPod. Just find the music file you want to copy to the iPod and righ click the mouse and you will now have a new menu item 'copy to iPod' just click this and the file copies to the Ipod.
This software is relatively new and is still being developed so as of yet the video and photo settings are not yet working.
Poddox supports all the audio formats supported by iTunes and your iPod so there is no problem there.
This software is also much faster than iTunes, but really the ability to copy to and from the iPod is a breeze and adds so much more flexibility to your iPod.
Summary: Just the job for me!

- 31/07/08 Can I copy my current itunes library over without an ipod being installed, as I have a far bigger library than the ipod will allow to copy onto it. Also can I use it to burn CD's |
