RedHat 7.0 is "nearly" ideal if you have never used Linux before, the main reasons being that so many companies (particularly in the UK and USA) treat "RedHat" as being the Linux standard. Whether that is good or bad for GNU/Linux as a whole is debateable, but it is a good reason to start off with RedHat if you are not too familiar with Linux yet.
