Advantages: Music!

Disadvantages: Downloads!

Now I am not going to be the one who tells you it's OK to download copyrighted music from the internet - but it is possible to do it and this piece of software can be a great help.

Sonique is a software MP3 player, which you can download for free at www.mp3.com and in my humble opinion it is one of the best player out there.

To begin with it is very slickly presented, it looks simply gorgeous on your desktop or wherever, you can minimise it while you surf and listen to your favourite tracks which I find very useful.

You can also change the way it looks, by downloading skins from the sonique website, and you can also get some technical support and help here if you need it too - www.sonique.com.

One of the most useful features sonique has is the search facility. You can simply enter the title or band/artist name and the program will bring up a list of possible sites which will let you download the tracks, but remember copyrights! This feature is very useful and anyone who is used to using search engines will recognise the options available here.

My only gripe is it is unreliable at downloading, this may be my ISP or connection so I am not going to let it affect my opinion, I would be interested if anyone else has had problems. The downloads can take a while, a 5 minute track will be around 6 megabytes which for my humble 56kbps modem equates to a download of around 20 minutes. If you do a lot of downloading I recommend using GoZilla or a similar piece of software so you can resume a download if you lose the connection.

Sonique allows you to create a playlist, of your favourite tracks so that you can organise them how you like, you can create multiple playlists so you can choose whichever suits your mood the best. There is also a random play feature.

If you like music then I highly recommend this piece of software.
