Possibly EMagic's Logic has caught up with it in terms of raw functionality, but Cubase is still the greatest combination of intuitiveness and power. Remember PRO24 on the Atari ST? Aah, those days of little bombs signalling the end of your composition and hideious midi delays. Well VST (Virtual Studio Technology) has changed all that. Using exceptionally modest kit, with VST at the centre of it all, my creative juices can flow all over the place. I have been the proud owner of Cubase fro about a year now and have used it to produce many different items of music. Its a great sequencer package because it allows me to build track that I have written on the guitar and put them on line. I use Cubase as one big mixer where I assemble my Drum tracks (courtesy of Fruity loops) Guitar playing and Midi in Keyboard (Yamaha PSR 140) to produce real alternative Dance tracks with my Josh Wink influenced 303 and 808 music thanks to Rebirth 338. This may be the best message you ever have read. If you use Steinberg's Cubase VST, be careful as to which operating system you use. I had the unfortunate experience of realizing that Cubase VST does not work on windows ME (millenium edition).If you are considering, up grading your operating system and use cubase VST, be sure not to upgrade to windows ME. I still cannot use cubase VST as I cannot unistall windows ME, you cannot downgrade windows, so I will have to wait until an upgrade of windows is available before I can use my favorite program again. Steinberg Cubase VST / 24 is a very powerful piece of studio quality sequencing software. A lot of professional producers choose Cubase and when you get into it you can see why. Using available VST plug ins its possible to do sooooo much to the sound it is amazing! VST plug ins are available for both intruments and effects meaning recorded sequences (in MIDI for example), can have any sound applied as an instrument and various effects can be applied to the top of that.
