... do basically the same thing ie sequence a stream of midi data.) So nothing new there. But added to the wonderful MIDEX 8 interface I now have and the timing is absolutely rock solid. And on to VST. Oh my God. The sheer versatility of this is wonderful. I now have a Minimoog, an Antares auto-tune, eight synthesizers, and 6 effects units! Steinberg Cubase VST/24 ... graphics card. Ignore the specs on the box The sequencer table detail is very good but loses a lot of clarity when placing long tracks or shrinking bars at >140bpm. The usual controls of back, forward skip to are all here to. Advances in sequencer graphics are still on there way. The sliding red line showing point of play still lacks a little finesse I feel. The only downside of Cubase is it is still a midi sequencer with audio .wav format thrown in. Most of us (loop heads that is!) will probably want .wav only but there are only four tracks available unless you want to cram in eight and lose a lot of visibility. Another excellent feature is the speed of this program; while you can wait for days for effects to be applied using other packages Wavelab can do the job in SECONDS with its realtime processing. Furthermore on this theme, there is the batch processor that allows the user to edit a wave and schedule the processor to run in the background – so that there is no noticeable reduction is system performance or audio playback. Steinberg Cubase VST/24 ... Cubasis VST (Virtual Studio Technology) is the cut-down version of Cubase, for midi sequencing and digital hard disk recording. I actually had Cubasis bundled with a new Creative Labs Soundblaster 1024 Live! Soundcard, but ir retails seperately at under £100. I have found the software amazingly powerful and functional, and would highly recommend it to any musician looking at getting started with digital audio recording. The software is very easy to use and comes with a good manual in pdf format.
