This magical piece of software from Syntrillium has every tool you will ever need to edit, process, mix and add effects to sound files. The sheer amount of functions that this program has is everything that a musician or amateur record producer or anyone who uses sound files for that matter could ever wish for. The noise reduction utility allows you to take a clip of silence, ie background noise, then uses a sample of it to remove the noise from the rest of the recording. Cool Edit Pro has to be the number 1 music software package for what it's designed for. It won't give you MIDI sequencing and has very limited video support, but it does provide a powerful solution to audio editing and multitracking. Working in a radio station, I use CEP all the time in a production environment. This is where I think that CEP excels over everything else. Speed id the name of the game and all basic tasks are simple to achieve and not time consuming. I've been using CEP for more than 2 years - at the time I bought it I was amazed at the features they've packed in it did so much more than I thoughy - and all in one package which will run with almost any soundcard. If you want to have professional sound editing and processing but without having to buy extra hardware this is not going to disappoint. I have had this software since early 1999 and it has failed to disappoint me. With its somewhat offbeat and original features such as "brainwave synchronisation" and "flanging" this program is ideal for the serious audio enthusiast or novice just looking for a bit of fun.
