RealityMan sent an e-mail to the best emulation site of the world (also mine: www.emuita.it). Millions of peope went out to his site, finding only banners, advertisment and nothing else. At the end, after at least one year of falsity (and billions of visit = a lot of banners = a lot of money for our Man) it was discovered that UltraHLE was not coded b...more

Premium Review UltraHLE: For Voodoo owners only.... (350 words)

UltraHLE caused a stir when it came out - using 3Dfx's Glide API, it emulates the core parts of an N64 console. It's not an emulator in the strict sense of the term, as it doesn't emulate everything (HLE - High Level Emulator). This means some games won't work - the authors originally wrote it to work best with Mario 64, then other popular games such as Zelda. Sadly, Nintendo kicked up a fuss and development was stopped a couple of days after release, never to be resumed. Anyway, due to the emulator's dependence on Glide, you'll need a 3Dfx graphics card to run it. Yes, you could use a Glide wrapper to run it on anything else, but ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Mario on the PC? (337 words)

First of all, The UltraHLE project is cancelled, so no further updates are planned. Doh! Okay, so Nintendo tried to ban it, but really, who cares? As long as you stick by the law and only download games you already own it's perfectly legal. At least, that's the theory. UltraHLE is renowned as the best N64 emulator currently available, so, do I agree? Well, yes and no. For the pre, it runs all old games at least as good as an N64, if not better. Popular games such as Mario 64 and Zelda run perfectly with no bugs. Controlling can be awkward without an analogue stick, but you get used to it in near to no time. The interface ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review UltraHLE: Great but limited (302 words)

This is from a Voodoo 3 owner. I have tried all the emulators. Nemu does not work well on Voodoo cards, Corn is not too good and TRWin, although getting better is not of a very high quality in the graphics department. UltraHLE on the other hand is outstanding... As long as you don't mind only being able to play a handful of games properly. The good thing is that the games it can run it runs flawlessly, better than a real N64. Now, I'm not condoning this, but I tried UltraHLE and was pleasantly surprised. I tried many games and it really only runs, SuperMario 64, Mario Kart, Goldeneye and Zelda64. It might run a few more quite well (I tried ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Some warnings.... (284 words)

This software is not really all that good. Although the emulation scene is pretty good generally, people tend to be pretty helpful usually, the support for N64 emulation is usually a bit dodgy. If you have a graphics card that is not a Voodoo, forget these emulators for now. The only usable emulator is UltraHLE - and from its inital explosion onto the scene a few years ago it has never really been developed. Most of the work done has been through ini files and the like. The drivers for non Voodoo cards consist of something called a Glide Wrapper. This is a further level of emulation for your PC to deal with, and if you can get it working, your ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review UltraHLE: N64 on the PC!!!! (166 words)
by - written on 05/07/00 (Useful, 21 readings)

The N64 is arguably the best budget console. It has decent graphics and very fun multiplayer options on many many games. It also boasts some of the most memorable games of the last five years, with 'Goldeneye', 'Mario 64' and more recently 'Perfect Dark' being the best examples. However, the best thing about the N64 is that the games are FUN, and can be played for 5 minutes to waste some time, or can be set up very quickly for some multiplayer gaming. This little piece of software (banned by Nintendo) makes it possible to download and play most N64 games on your own PC with little problem. The emulation is good ...  Read the complete review
