Advantages: N64 games are great!
Disadvantages: "Illegal", slow with non Voodoo cards, tricky to get wrappers working
This software is not really all that good. Although the emulation scene is pretty good generally, people tend to be pretty helpful usually, the support for N64 emulation is usually a bit dodgy. If you have a graphics card that is not a Voodoo, forget these emulators for now. The only usable emulator is UltraHLE - and from its inital explosion onto the scene a few years ago it has never really been developed. Most of the work done has been through ini files and the like. The drivers for non Voodoo cards consist of something called a Glide Wrapper. This is a further level of emulation for your PC to deal with, and if you can get it working, your performance takes a serious hit. It means, essentially, that your PC is emulating a 3D graphics card which is emulating a N64. Even my PC, which is pretty quick with loads of memory and a decent PIII processor stuggled to emulate both on my ATI Rage Fury 32MB card. The ROMS are *reasonably* easy to find for anyone with a bit of nous - try google search engine as a start point. Im sure this emulator works very well with some of the earlier supported games on your Voodoo card, but for anyone without one of these (overrated) cards - forget it and stick to decent PC games. another thing to consider is the lack of the Nintendo pad. I feel the games lack something without a proper pad to play them on. Mario is a good example of this. Still. The download wont take long, give it a try!

- 18/08/00 Too right gissing, I naively bought a cd for £4 at a computer fair with this emulator and a load of games, and it now is used as a coffee mat. The real thing cannot be beaten |
