Advantages: Easy to use and you can produce some excellent interfaces quickly

Disadvantages: Not as powerful as some languages

I am just starting out in programming and the language that I am starting out in is Visual Basic.

I am very it a very useful and easy language to use. The main advantage that I can see with Visual Basic is the user interface building. It is so easy to build a very sound interface in a matter of a few minutes. It is then possible to add code to the interface easily.

Visual Basic is not as flexible as say languages like C/C++ but for moderate programmers you can do almost anything you want. Doing memory operations in C is very useful but Visual Basic does not offer this functionality. The Visual Basic package is very easy to use and the help files are always there as backup incase you are stuck.

I would recommend Visual Basic to anyone who is interested in Programming and especially programming that involved lots of interfaces. If only all programming languages were as easy to use, we would certainly have less hassle!

Summary:
