Winzip is probably the most popular compression program, as it comes with most new pcs it is probably also the only one that most people know about. However .zip files are not the best type of compressed data. Zipping one huge file makes only a small difference to the size of it. Zipping really is only useful for more than one file. This is where WinAce steps in. WinAce is essentially turns one huge file into lots of smaller files, which can then be stored in a much smaller zip file. Winzip is undoubtedly the most popular file compression on the market, and the one that most people probably use on their machine. However, one thing to remember is that Winzip doesn't handle the compression/decompression of some other forms of compression, such as ace,arc and rar files. I myself hit this problem a few months ago, I downloaded a zip file, unextracted it, only to be hit by a mass of .rar files, which Winzip couldn't handle. It is possible to use Winzip with these files, but only if you have a copy of the winrar program and configure it as an external program within the user interface. WinAce is FASTER than WinRAR. WinAce is stable and FAST. I did a test of compressing the very same file using WinRAR first and then WinAce: WinRAR compressed the file in 25 minutes. WinAce compressed the file in 14 minutes. WinAce compressed the file 11 minutes FASTER than WinRAR.
