WinampNewest Review: ... streaming 24/7, you just have to know how to capture it. My new weapon of choice is Winamp. This free piece of software has been around for several years now and I remember having a copy back in the day of MP3 infancy and when Napster was all the rage. The software allows to to play back MP3's, compile playlists and basically works like Itunes but it looks a little sexier and less memory ... more |

A nice bit of music breaks the silence of being a keyboard warrior. But taking your pic from your collection of MP3's can soon get tiresome and samey. That's where listening to the radio comes in. Now I'm sure I'm not the only one who can't stand the inane witterings of some of the new Radio 1 presenters during the daytime, I mention no names of course but some make me want to put 'cotton' in my ears. Anyway I digress, if you have broadband connection then internet radio is the way to go, there's an amazing array of music out there streaming 24/7, you just have to know how to capture it. One of the main competitors to Windows Media Player and iTunes. It has been around a long while and over the years has seen numerous improvements bringing it up to what is now an impressive application. It has all the usual features present in media players including playlist editing and importing that is easier to use than WMP. The new version also supports importing iTunes libraries. One feature that it has which, while not being hugely significant, makes listening more enjoyable is the fading out of songs when stop is pressed. It is not a long fade out but is long enough to remove the sharp sudden silence that is left by some other ... Read the complete review

Winamp has been a long standing application on my personal computer, originally being developed and released as a program to read/play .mp3 files in the mid 1990s. It has continually evolved since its humble roots and continues to grow into a more sophisticated application capable of so much more than simply playing my music. For what it is "on the tin", Winamp is a lightweight and "bloat free" media player capable of handling various audio and video formats ranging from .mp3, .wav or .mpeg to the more recent and innovative file extensions such as .m4a, .m4v and .3gp. The program also features a native "Nullsoft" format (.NSV). ... Read the complete review

WinAmp is a free music player for the windows operating system, and although I liked the program, I found a few hitches in it, that interrupted my use of the program. First, the playback of the music is smooth, and without jerks or gltiches, generally. Generally. That is, if you open a resource intensive application, expect the music to freeze and stop. The interface is alright, but not one of my favourites. To me, it seems large, and full of unneeded windows and buttons, that could be hidden away in a menu, not left on display. The thing that made me dislike the interface the most however, is the fact you can't minimize the program into the icon bar. The ... Read the complete review

It was the first descent piece of software available to play MP3 files on the computer. And it is still the BEST. I tried to use MS Media Player, which is as complex and unpredictable as iTune software. Other freeware are nothing but poor copy of winamp or full of advertises and malware. The reason WinAmp is so popular is due to its simplicity and user interface. It has the most natural user interface. Natural means the interface signs are very logical, with Play, Stop, FF, Pause, Eject buttons are similar to old time audio players. And you can start using it without any additinal efforts. The playlist facility is very great. I never ... Read the complete review
