Advantages: Minimises to a menu-bar size and can be set to always on top to keep control of your music.

Having been a passionate hater of all things iTunes & iPod related since I owned a computer, and finding Windows Media Player good for playing DVD's but little else, I was on the search for something good to organise my ever-growing music collection. A friend recommended winamp to me, so I thought it was worth a quick download, and I haven't looked back since.

The player itself is sleek and streamlined, and can be minimised to the size of a menu bar at the top of your screen and set to stay "always on top" so that you can see what you're listening to and navigate between tracks without having to click away from whatever else you're doing. It was this convenience really that drew me in, more than anything ese. Aside from this, music is easy to add to the library (which can be organised by artist, song title etc) and the library itself is easy to search - there's a search bar at the top and you type in what you're looking for - an artist or album name for example, and it'll filter your library until you get what you're looking for. You can create playlists as well, which are an easy way of sorting your favourite tracks for a favourite occasion and saving these!

Overall therefore, whilst I'm not quite technically savvy enough to comment on the specifics of the programme, from an avid music listener/computer users point of view, I really do think winamp is the best of the bunch and would definitely recommend giving it a try - it's free and quick to download, so you're not losing anything!
