It was the first descent piece of software available to play MP3 files on the computer. And it is still the BEST.

I tried to use MS Media Player, which is as complex and unpredictable as iTune software. Other freeware are nothing but poor copy of winamp or full of advertises and malware.

The reason WinAmp is so popular is due to its simplicity and user interface. It has the most natural user interface. Natural means the interface signs are very logical, with Play, Stop, FF, Pause, Eject buttons are similar to old time audio players. And you can start using it without any additinal efforts.

The playlist facility is very great. I never managed to create playlist quickly in any other software. You can also create and save playlists easily.

Other good aspect of WinAmp is to change appearance of the player using different "skins". There are thousands of nice facias available online and you can also create your own skin and personalise the player.

In summary, it is excellent, easy to use and very light weight software which is succesfully beating heavyweights.
